Once again, after finishing a volume, I ended up taking a longer break than usual. I mostly have myself to blame for that since I was persuaded by my friends to start playing FFXIV. I spent the last month basically trying to catch up to my friends and then making my way through the new expansion. I’ve been suffering just so I could grind and level multiple classes up to 80.
In any case, throughout this past month, I’ve sort of been thinking about my next translation work. I know I said before that I probably wouldn’t touch the WN version of Dungeon Defence, but it’s been so long since the last volume that I’m starting to give in. I actually haven’t read all of the WN yet, and I know that the LN and WN are on different paths, but the desire to read more about Dant’s posse is outweighing my original reluctance to translate the WN. The WN is a completed series with 507 chapters, however, this is where my problem forms. If I pick this up, then I’ll be delaying Handholding and Million Dollar Bill even more. Even if I were to make a poll about this, it’s as clear as day to me that the vast majority of people would vote for me to translate the WN of DD. I’m currently reading through a couple of the chapters and I’ll wait to see how you guys respond to this update before I make any concrete decisions.

I’m okay with WN if the translator still find the story good compare to the LN. Just afraid that in the WN the story will be less refined maybe less good, since from my understanding a WN is more comparable to a draft (which might already be quite good) while the LN is more like the finished product.

might I propose the idea of doing a volume of handholding before getting to DD WN? and I mean this under the assumption that you will likely be TLing DD WN. that said I’m not sure I’m for the DD WN. from what you’ve told us about it, it doesn’t sound very good or is at least a damn near different genre.
*shrug*
maybe it will be decent, but I much prefer handholding getting off it’s current cliffhanger atm.

I mean, if you already want to translate WN, you might as well make some money and I think they will also want it. I remember seeing DD in top 10 for longest time on korean section of novelupdates

Honestly, no matter how much I want to read WN DD, if you don’t enjoy to translate it the don’t. HH and Dollar have its own niche. Those three novels are pretty unique from each other. Tho how about test the water first?

I trust your taste. Read the WN, if it is good translate it, if it turns into an unholy mess (a lot of WNs start out good and get really bloated and messy near the end due to lack of direction and not enough editing) then just work on your other excellent projects.

I think it’s better to finish “Handholding” first, and if by that time there is no continuation of “Dungeon Defence” then you can try to translate WN version, because (from what i know) WN is significantly different from LN.

About your projects, while I do want to read more about DD, if we are talking about starting the WN or doing another volume of the series you’ve started already, I must admit that I’m more curious about how Handholding’ll continue than how the WN of DD goes…
But then again, it’s all up to you, whatever you pick would be great, as there are no losses here to us readers – so pick whatever picks your fancy when you are tired of grinding and we’ll support you all the same ‘o/

Since you mention hand holding is a completed series, I think finishing that would be for the best. Regarding the WN of DD, I’m not gonna lie. I do want more Defense Dungeon. And I’m concerned of the LN version. Is Vol 6 not even published yet?
Right now, I’m enjoying Your and My Asylum Vol 4. On NovelUpdates it’s a continuing series and last updated April 2018. So, I don’t know if it’s dropped or the next volume just isn’t published.

I’m for more DD if you feel the WN is worth translating. If the DD LN gets sorted out and resumes, I’d still gladly read it. Especially if the WN and LN have significantly diverged.

I’ve been waiting for Handholding vol 4 for years, and although I’ve known that DD is one of your greatest passions, you’ve said so many times that you wouldn’t let Handholding readers suffer from a cliffhanger after the end of vol 3… Well, the choice is yours, but for me, Handholding vol 4 is what I’ve always dreamed about since the end of vol 3.

As much as I love Dungeon Defense, I also want to know what happens in Handholding. Anybody know if HH is being translated elsewhere or where I can find raws to machine translate? I’m desperate lol

The thing I like in Dungeon Defense is it’s characters and the writing, so even if WN has a different paths than the LN, I still want to read it. If you think the WN don’t have a massive quality difference than LN then go on. 🙂

I’d honestly just prefer to wait for the lightnovel of DD to release and read some Million Dollar Bill or Handholding in the meantime, but if the WN of DD is comparable to the LN then I wouldn’t mind a translation of it.

Please translate handholding first. It’s a finished series and the cliffhanger of volume 3 is not very bearable. I love both DD and Handholding, but I care more for the LN of DD and HH than for the WN of DD.

Mmmm well isn’t fine?… if the WN is completely different to the LN I guess we can enjoy it as a sort of Spin off…. but I guess that if you decide that the story in the WN is not polished enough to be enjoyable compared to the LN then I guess it would be better to keep waiting… still it’s been quite a while and I’m starting to get a little anxious…. also, forgive me if you already mentioned it but…. what about Your and My Asylum? last volume published was last year right? did that series also ran into trouble?

I would love to ready the WN, if only just to see the differences between the two versions. I’ve been starving for even a little bit of content from that series. And that would definitely help tide us over until the LN.
